# Global data center hyperscaler needing deterministic wireless at a AI-dense server floor

A global hyperscaler deployed Celona Orion private 5G across its server floors to give technicians reliable mobility in high-interference AI compute environments — while Wi-Fi continues to serve office and administrative spaces.

A global hyperscaler set out to improve wireless connectivity across its existing data centers. While Wi-Fi continued to serve office and administrative spaces, the server floor presented a far more demanding RF environment. Dense server racks, cable trays, liquid-cooling infrastructure, and AI compute clusters increased electromagnetic interference, making reliable mobility for technicians using tablets, mobile KVMs, and diagnostic tools increasingly difficult.

## The challenge: Wi-Fi in high-interference AI environments

As AI infrastructure scaled, the server halls became one of the harshest wireless environments in the facility. The issue wasn't office coverage — it was holding a connection for technicians moving through dense, constantly changing compute aisles.

- Rising noise floor. High-density racks, cable trays, and AI infrastructure pushed the RF noise floor up across the server halls.
- Moving target. Conditions shifted constantly as equipment was installed, upgraded, and relocated — so optimization was never finished.
- Handoffs broke first. Most disruptions hit while technicians roamed between access points, where high noise erased the margin Wi-Fi needs for a clean handoff.
- Shielding wouldn't scale. Consistent Wi-Fi mobility would have meant shielding aisles across the floor — impractical to operate and hard to scale.

### Operational impact

The connectivity gaps showed up directly in day-to-day operations.

- 7 in 10 data center technicians experienced connectivity-related productivity loss.
- Roaming interruptions disrupted critical operational workflows.
- Wireless issues increased maintenance delays and machine downtime.
- Future AI initiatives required a more reliable wireless foundation.

## Why the customer chose Celona Orion

The customer evaluated how to deliver dependable mobility on the server floor without re-engineering the building — and chose Celona Orion private 5G as a complement to its existing Wi-Fi.

- 30 dB greater resilience to RF interference with private wireless vs enterprise Wi-Fi.
- Network-controlled handovers minimized mobility interruptions.
- Reliable connectivity at significantly higher RF noise levels.
- Deterministic performance for technicians, robots, cameras, and sensors.
- Seamless integration with existing switches and LAN infrastructure.
- AI-native converged platform serves as a dependable base for future robotics and autonomous operational workflows.

## Deployment details

The customer deployed Celona private 5G on CBRS spectrum at scale across its data center campus — 200+ Celona AP 26 access points covering several million square feet of floor space, spanning multiple buildings and both ground and upper floors. Each PoE+ powered AP 26 plugs directly into the customer's existing switches, so coverage extended over the current LAN with no parallel cabling or network overhaul. AP density was matched to the RF demands of each space: active compute and server halls received consistent, higher-density coverage, while large staging and pre-fit-out areas were covered more lightly and scale up as new compute is installed.

## Looking forward

By deploying a deterministic wireless foundation for operational workloads, the customer reduced workflow interruptions, improved technician productivity, and established a scalable platform for future robotics, computer vision, and agentic AI initiatives. The customer adopted a converged wireless architecture that uses the right technology for each environment — combining private 5G for mission-critical mobility with Wi-Fi for traditional enterprise connectivity.
